Frequently Asked Questions

BioIQ; biological fertilisers, soil conditioners and soil-based products for Australian farmers, large tract land managers and agribusiness – naturally.

Fulvic acid is an important naturally occurring organic acid found in nutrition rich humus and important for plants to obtain their nutrition from soil.

Humic acid is a key element in binding soil particles to boost soil structure and it promotes healthy root growth in high clay and compacted soils and binds loose low clay soil particles for better water retention. In addition humic molicules can remove salt from clay soil, which boosts plant health further.

Carbon is a necessary ingredient for plant growth, and for the production of glucose and the structure of all plants.

Molasses provides sugars and minerals to feed the soil biology.

Nematodes are microscopic, worm-like organisms that live in the soil. There are well over 15,000 known species, making them the most numerous multicellular animals on earth! A single handful of garden soil can contain thousands.
BAD NEMATODES
Most nematodes are harmless, but a handful of species attack the outside surfaces of plants, burrowing into the plant tissue and causing root, stem, folar and even crop damage. Other nematodes live inside the plants for part of their lives, causing damage from the inside out. Plants injured by nematodes are also more susceptible to bacterial and fungal damage as well. Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to distinguish nematode damage from other issues like poor fertility or disease. A soil test may be required to positively diagnose nematodes as the problem.
GOOD NEMATODES
Not all nematodes are bad! In fact, there are numerous nematodes that occur naturally in the soil that break down organic matter (like in compost). Increasingly, nematodes are also introduced into farms as an organic, biological control method to help control pests such as grubs, fleas, cutworms, and root maggots.
Once released, nematodes get right to work. Depending on the type of nematode released, they either “cruise” around the soil to find the larvae of pests or wait for a host insect to pass by and then “ambush” them. The nematodes release toxic bacteria that kills the pest larvae within 24-48 hours. The bacteria then serves a food source for the nematodes to reproduce. Once the food source dwindles, the nematodes start the search for a new host, helping to eliminate pests from your farm.

These bacteria live on the root systems of plants, where they process atmospheric nitrogen into a form available for the plants to use.

Bacillus megaterium main strength is to releases phosphorus locked-up inthe soil for increased and healthy plant growth.

Converts atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia, releases potassium, phosphorus, and nitrogen in soil, reducing spending on chemical fertilisers.

Decomposes organic matter providing nutrition for plant growth, releases locked uppotassium, and converts atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia.

This bacterium has bio-pesticidal potential to attack insectsand soil disease and solubilise locked up phosphates.

Bacillus Bacteria provides active Pro-Biotics into the soil, restoring nutrient levels and enabling the plants to use the soil nutrients more effectively. By injecting ‘good’ microbes into the soil this can dramatically increase crop yields and pest resistance. Used with BioIQ ‘s bio-fertilisers it will also improve water retention levels in soils and increase plant root mass.

Microbial 9 is a combination of 7 bacteria and 2 fungi to improve soil health and the utilisation rate of fertilisers by uptake of nutrients. The M9 will assist in better nutrient cycling to significantly improve the soil’s structure, maximising root growth and soil health.
M9 increases organic carbon and releases locked up phosphorus, nitrogen, and potassium, and enhances soil and plant resistance to disease and pathogens.

A good soil profile will have more calcium than phosphorus, more phosphorus than potassium, more potassium than magnesium, and more magnesium than sulphur.

The first objective of your Farm Plan is to balance out the calcium/magnesium soil ratio. The best way of doing this is to look at the soil test results under “Percentage” in the “Adjusted CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity)”.
For a clay-based soil:
Calcium percentage needs to be 65- 68%
Magnesium needs to be 12-15%
For a sand-based soil:
Calcium percentage needs to be around 60%
Magnesium needs to be around 20%
In both cases, the CEC needs to add up as close to 80% as possible.
Most soils will initially require an amount of calcium to be applied, so without jumping to conclusions, your team will look at the available phosphorus and/or available sulphur, which will help to determine the quality of the soil profile.

Obviously, every application is different so one of our specialists can evaluate the application on a case-by-case basis but generally, using BioIQ+ Fertilisers or BioIQ+ Soil Conditioners, the land doesn’t need to be spelled.

BioIQ has a range of products to suit a range of applications. However, it can sometimes be overwhelming to be confronted with a plethora of products and as the end-user, be asked to select the best for you. To this end, your BioIQ representative can work with you to source the best range of products for your application. There’s also the option to be part of our BioIQ Regeneration Program for larger applications.
